Description

Scannán ar cheann de na grianghraif is aitheanta riamh. Pictiúir a tógadh i Nua Eabhrac i 1932. Aon fhear déag oibre suite go sócúil ag ithe a lóin ar ghiarsa atá crochta 69 urlár os cionn na sráide, ar an Rockefeller Building.
Thuill an pictiúir cáil mhór agus is iomaí brí siombalach bainte as ag fealsúna agus ag lucht ceardchumainn. Ach do mhuintir na Sean Eaglaise, i ndeisceart na Gaillimhe, tá cúis eile lena thabhairt chun suntais. Creideann siad go bhfuil beirt dá muintir féin sa bpictiúir.

New York City, 1932. America is in the throes of the Great Depression, the huge influx of Italian, Irish, and Jewish immigrants has led to unprecedented urban expansion. A photograph "Lunch atop a Skyscraper," is taken during the construction of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. In it, eleven workmen taking their lunch break while casually perched along a steel girder – boots dangling 850 feet above the sidewalk, Central Park and the misty Manhattan skyline stretching out behind them.

For 80 years, the identity of the eleven men – and the photographer that immortalized them – remained a mystery: their stories, lost in time, subsumed by the fame of the image itself. But finally the photograph is beginning to give up some of its secrets.
